The Big Freeze!!

Nick popped in to get stickered up before Dub Freeze.

decoration

It seems that he is well in tune with popular culture as his bus is being used for the advertising flyers for 'Run to the hills'.Funnly enough he chose not to throw this one on the floor as usual!!

Heads up to Beaker too for a cheeky pic on his blog... http://beakersblog.skynetblogs.be/ Good to see you at the weekend mate.

What a white knuckle ride....this is the A50 at 6AM this Sunday gone. Obviously we selected the most appropriate vehicle for the adverse weather...

Barndoor blitz!

Made more progress on the barndoor last week...once you get started on a project its addictive! Rear chassis notches in and beefed up with gussets and heafty side plates.

decoration

...just enough room for the wiring loom behind those gussets. Draw wire in place to make the job a little easier when the time comes!

The rear of a barndoor chassis doesnt have shock absorber mounting points from factory (well... the Gerson factory)! The rear chassis cradle is a neat way of mounting them.

In the never ending quest to be super-low and super- narrow the front chassis welds had to go. Once ground flush they were grooved and re-welded so that they can be polished flush with no strength loss. Its only a few mm's but it all adds up!

Bob decided it was time to cure his oil leaks once and for all and bought his lovely small window bus down for some TLC! Nice to see it leave blowing exhaust gas rearwards out of the new stainless steel tailpipe rather than up the side of the bus!!

Simon uses his bay to support the Derby phoenix motorbike racing club, using it to travel to and camp at the various rounds around the country...As the racing seasons nearly upon us its time for a few tweeks to help it on its way. Just for the record and for any race fans...Come on Rossi!!!

decoration

Gordon and his wife cheryl own this nicely presented camper...unfortunately the engine has found itself lacking the necessary umph to make using it pleasurable. Engine and gearbox replacement to follow in the next few weeks.

decoration

Twice in two weeks...Steve aka 'The Silver Fox' pops in! This time its a few tweeks needed on his bus before dubfreeze.

We will be trading (Re:standing chatting) at dubfreeze if you want to discuss any future plans for your VW's. We'll be in the main hall Plots 54&55 - Make sure you swing by and say hello!!

Spring Clean!!

Thought it was about time to silence the critics and blow the dust off the Barndoor. What a cool little project!

Nearly forgot that we squeezed Jonathan and Maggies bay in for various MOT bits...it's back with us post summer for a new beam and subtle lowering job...see you then guys.

Photobucket

This is about the only bit thats in good order...dont worry Barndoor people, all the good bits such as the rear axle will be put on the SSVC/Samba etc when we're done.

Gersons done a great job giving us something to work with. Theres a few additions that are needed though before it goes off to be E-coated. First job...raising the steering box!

This is a 50mm lift kit bought from 'dsbus' on the SSVC forum. Great product that only needed modding due to the barndoor pedal shaft being different.

With the cable tubes in and some extra gearbox gussets its starting to take shape....yeah right!

Although we normally like to have a Christmas clean up, we were so busy this year that its slipped into Februarys itinerary!

Silver Steve manned up and popped down to help with the spring clean...not sure if that's a promotion or demotion from teaboy Steve?! ...Cheers Mate :)

Cool looking Ghia!

Jons Ghia flew through its MOT this week which left us time to sort out some other essentials like the blowing exhaust, ride height and some Simpson lap belts amongst other things.

Photobucket

Photobucket

With the collars fitted the exhaust is now gas tight and sounds spot on!

Photobucket

...just before a gentle tickle with the lowering stick!

....after three clicks on the front and two full screw rotations on the back...ride height sorted!

Photobucket

To say that Jon uses this car for his daily (since abandoning modern cars), and  wife Zoe (when not in her split) uses it to do the shopping and kid run... We think that its a got a great stance with just enough practicality thrown in!!  Nice one Jon :)

Photobucket

Bobs engine had more leaks than a collinder...Re-sealed and ready for instalation next week.
